the defense knew i was scum
as a lawyer, though, he did his best
to defent a crook zealously
it hard to fight for a man who owns
little kids on video

until i’m declared guilty
the prosecution had the case wrapped up
and i was headed to jail
my lawyer told me, “take the deal–
a guilty plea means only twenty”
but twenty years or a lifetime there
it made no difference to me
i wanted a trial, it was worth the risk
just to see those kids one more time
oh we pride ourselves in the process
that strives towards honesty

and the felons end up free

their faces, their screams, and their testimonies
are always there for me
